Big Changes Are Coming to PPG Pickleball this Season!
It has been a while since our last email to everyone. As we get into the reopening, again, spring is around the corner and with any luck the town will be opening the outdoor courts early to get us out and active again.
Covid has been trying to say the least. We have been cooped up and away from our friends and families for too long.
Some members of our Pickleball community have lost loved ones over the past few months due to Covid and we would just like to again express our condolences to those who we know of and to those we may not have known about.
We have a couple of brief announcements, in this email. There is a lot of news and information to come in the next few days and weeks.
Website
As some of your have noticed, our old website is gone. Unfortunately it was removed prematurely before we were able to get the new website up and running, taking away our ability to communicate with our members for the past few weeks.
Emmerson Park
Over the winter we have been in constant contact with the Parks and Recreation trying to secure a permanent home for us to play Pickleball this summer.
We have submitted a proposal to the Town, that included a resurfacing of Emmerson Park in Georgetown with a 6-court layout for Pickleball and the removal of the tennis courts to give us permanent courts and a home.
While the tennis courts will remain, as the town is still reluctant to give us permanent Pickleball courts, on Monday March 1st, 2021, most of our proposal was approved at Council, which will still give us 6 courts at Emmerson Park and the surface will be fixed to allow Pickleball play without damaging our equipment.
We will be permitting the courts from the town, as all sports organizations must. We have asked for a 3-hour time-slot in the mornings everyday as well as Monday – Friday evenings from 6 to 10 pm for Pickleball play only. This is a trial so we will have to do our part to make sure we can continue to grow Pickleball in the coming years.
This will allow us to try out running ladders and leagues much like the winter play. We will be able to accommodate those who work, have clinics and lessons for those who want to learn more and to bring in new members who are curious about Pickleball.
We should have a clear answer regarding play after our meeting with Parks and Rec on March 15th.
PPG
For the last 5 years we have been known as PPG or Pickleball Players Group. This will be the last communication from us as PPG.
In order to facilitate growth, we have decided to rebrand and rebuild to continue to develop and grow Pickleball in Halton Hills.
As always we wish to thank the pioneers of PPG who worked tirelessly for us to get to this point.
Court Openings
We have learned that April 1st is the scheduled opening date for all outdoor courts in town. We will cover this more in the next email.
Stay safe, we look forward to seeing everyone on the courts soon!
