Hello fellow Pickleballers,
As you know, for the last few years the Town of Halton Hills has been conducting open houses, multiple surveys and strategic planning meetings to plan the recreational facilities for our town.
PPG has been there the whole way, at every meeting, leading every survey and being the top sport mentioned in the strategic planning. Despite our efforts, Pickleball was left out of the Strategic Plan by the third party planning company who advised the Town.
This is unacceptable to us and Parks & Rec agrees with us.
Well, now we have one more survey to go and our participation will be a determining factor for the future of Pickleball in Halton Hills. We need to have the best response our group has ever had.
We have some concerns with the way the survey is set up. It again is geared to allowing tennis to keep all the courts for shared use and not allow for permanent outdoor Pickleball Courts.
The tennis courts before covid went 90% unused.
Except for the Gellert courts, the remaining tennis courts have been neglected since they were built 40 years ago and have fallen into disrepair!
It is time to get the town to revise their 40 year old policy on tennis courts and make room for Pickleball. It is the fastest growing sport in North America and is being embraced by every community in Halton Region and the surrounding areas.
Yet Halton Hills is still reluctant to convert the 2 run-down tennis courts at Emmerson Park into permanent Pickleball courts that will be well used for years to come.
Get your friends, families, co-workers anyone you can to fill this survey out, to support Pickleball.
In question 5, … what group are you a member of make sure to check off, Pickleball Halton Hills(Pickleball Players Group) on the Club question. As well as GRC if you play there.
In question 7, How frequently do you play, use the pre-Covid times you played or how many times you will play when Covid is over.
Say no to question 12 about picking up rental nets.
We believe that this question will skew the results of the survey. It is completely unreasonable for players to have to pickup nets from the library, assemble them to play, disassemble them after playing and then return them to the library.
It is a biased question that does not allow for the installation of permanent nets and the results of the replies to it can be used to rationalize the loan procedure. No other sport has such onerous and time consuming requirements to use public facilities.
The most important part of this survey for us is the comments section.
In the comment section it is extremely important to tell the Town that we need permanent outdoor Pickleball courts and there is no reason that some of the tennis courts can not be converted.
With shared courts we will always be subjected to the 30 minute time limit the town has on court usage. We need our own and we need to show the town that we are here to stay!
