FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

MEMBERSHIP

Why did the membership dues increase for 2023?

Since inception, pickleball in Halton Hills has had no dedicated court times and little to no overhead resulting in minimal registration fees. The year 2022 saw a marked shift in the Association resulting in dedicated member’s only court times, increased insurance costs and a number of value added incentives. The new membership fees are to cover these costs and provide a small capital fund to improve infrastructure in conjunction with the Town

What do I get with my membership fee?

The year 2022 is the first year HHPA has received dedicated member only court times. The Town was very late signing the documents and as such planning events this year has been challenging. It is envisioned that in addition to members only court times, only members will have access to clinics, leagues, ladders, in- house tournaments, social events and other events. In some cases there is a small extra charge to cover off minor expenses associated with a particular event.

SKILL LEVELS
How can I determine my skill level?

On the website read the article entitled “What Level Am I?”. A certified rating specialist can rate you at your own cost; however, an honest self-assessment usually suffices. If you feel your skill level should be possibly higher the HHPA Director of Coaching can assess you and provide a ranking for use within HHPA only. The assessed rating will be discussed at a board meeting and the board’s decision shall be final for a minimum of 2 months.

WINTER PLAY
Where do we play in the winter?

Negotiations are already underway to secure indoor play venues for the 22/23 season. At present HHPA has secured all 12 of the available locations in the immediate area and your board is looking at other options. These venues charge fees over and above the Town fees and the extra costs are reflected in the pricing. Of note, virtually all monies are used to cover the cost of the venue and very little is banked by the HHPA.

How does winter play work?

Winter play is booked on the website on a first-come-first-served basis. Make sure to have all your registration details so you are prepared to log on and book as early as possible. Spaces are limited to reduce sitting time so give yourself options should your first choice become booked. Payment is made via e-transfer.

Can I play in someone else’s winter spot?

During COVID this was not possible as we had to provide a list of participants and that list could not be changed. Barring any new COVID restrictions, substitutions are allowed. Any reimbursement of monies is between the players and will not involve HHPA. Should we add something about the substitute player being the same player level?

VOLUNTEERS

Can I help out?

YES! Your Board of Directors is comprised of volunteers who work behind the scenes almost everyday to make the HHPA the best experience possible for the members. Events and programs need volunteer facilitators to run them. Please see a board member if you can help out in any small way.

COMMUNICATION
How do I communicate a complaint and/or suggestion?
